the lines of time 2008, collage on canvas
Considering the photograph as an object – the surfaces, edges, corners, colors, borders, and textures immediately put the image into a historical context. Borders have especially been interesting as they show the type and structure of the paper used, the finger prints left and the general wear of the image itself. This was the departure point for the series Lines of Time. Concentrating on only the edges of the images- but not the images themselves, the accumulation of those edges causes us to concentrate on the nuance of difference. Lines of Time is a meditation on those differences through an abstraction of a common form taken out of context. As a result, the photograph in its altered form stops being about the document and is considered merely as a remnant of a memory, of a moment or perhaps of a person. Time in an accumulation of form.
