Beautiful in its natural form, Walter Tschinkel’s “collaboration” with ants pushes the boundaries of so-called conventional design by defying mass production and enabling nature to create what would typically be considered an abstract sculptural form. Having studied various ant species and the differing underground colonies that are produced, has cast aluminum molds, a natural way that concedes the human manufacturing process to something simpler and more beautiful. Giving a form to this natural design, placing it out of the original context making a cultural artifact.
